worse worse and worse news

SOOOOOOOOOOOOOO its been wuite a while, and most would figure that at 2 years 1 month post op from jaw surgery that i would be on here with good news.

WRONG.......

So where to begin....well about a year ago i started having problems with the plate to the left of my nose, i could feel it raised and it was giving me sharp sharp pains...so FINALLY i had it removed a month ago....Surgeon said good thing cuz it was moving around for some reason and it was very irritated.

So u would think thats all, WRONG AGAIN

My bite has been shifting for the past year too, my teeth are perfect and so would my bite if my lower jaw werent moving to the right....my whole bite/face is now crooked.....and the pain is BRUTAL, worse than when i had the last surgery.

So through special xrays, etc etc they have discovered that the real underlying problem is my jaw joint itself.....

So i saw another jaw specialist, there are only 2 in Canada or Ontario i believe that can perform JAW JOINT replacement.....and that unfornately is what im looking at.....a HUGE contraption going into my face.....

I will post more info later about the procedure itself, just thought id get myself back on the map here.....and if anyone has had this procedure please let me know...ive been searching and searching and cant find anything.

Heres some sites in the meantime

Holy crap you've got to be kidding? Sheesh, sorry to hear you've got to go through a whole new barrel of nasty to deal with the pain. Discouraging. I'm assuming it's MRI that showed to joint issues? Crazy. Know next to nothing about joint replacements ( there are a couple of people who were talking about their joint replacements on the original Yahoo Orthognathic Surgery Group..) so thanks for the links. Will check them out to get more of an idea what you're up against.

Keep us posted and hang in there, that this will finally be the end of surgeries and pain.

kristy, you seem too young for this proceedure!! I am 45 and had my right jaw joint replaced on Oct 6, 2009. I would never had doner this is my arthritis and pain hadn't gotten so bad, and even at that I'm certain there may have been less invasive procedures to try first. Please know that I have had osteoarthritis in my jaw since
I was 16, due to a fall. My jaw grew slightly to one side and only I could see it. Only as I got older and the arthritis became active again did I have any real problems. Please, Please do NOT do this!! Go seek many other opinions first. After you do this there is NO going back.

Hi, Kristy, I'm happy to find your blog. I'm just starting out a whole process of surgeries, braces, etc. I recently had a consult with a surgeon who suggested a joint replacement could possibly be in my future. Though, since I am only 30, his suggestions was to first try upper jaw surgery and braces to see if we can make my bite stable through that alone. If my open bite returns, I guess that will mean I need the joint replacement too. We started out this whole process with an MRI, which shows that my jaw joint has degraded due to something like osteoarthritis, which he believes caused the open bite. I'm pretty uncomfortable, so I don't feel like I have much of a choice here, but it's a lot ahead of me. (although hopefully he is right and it's just going to 1 surgery and braces!) Good luck to you, and thanks for blogging, it's nice to know there are others out there that are getting through all this as well.
